RD Hopper Becomes Second Vice President of the
Automotive Recyclers Association
MANASSAS, VA – Professional Automotive Recycler RD Hopper, Sonny’s Auto Salvage, Jacksonville, Arkansas, became the Second Vice President of the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) at the 71st Annual ARA Convention & Exposition in Nashville, Tennessee, October 22-25, 2014. As a member of the Executive Committee of the Association, Hopper helps direct the actions of the ARA, the voice of the professional automotive recycling industry, and will ultimately become President of the Association in 2016-17.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my first year on the Executive Committee and as Second Vice President, I plan to continue to bring my energy, industry experience, and enthusiasm to the table and do what I can to make sure our Association and the professional automotive recycling industry continue to thrive.” said Hopper.
Hopper purchased Sonny’s Auto Salvage, www.sasparts.com, in 1998. Located in Jacksonville, Arkansas, Sonny’s is a salvage yard with history. It has been serving the Central Arkansas area for over 38 years as a family owned and operated organization. In 1976, Sonny Taylor purchased the business and renamed it Sonny’s Auto Salvage. The Taylor family operated the business for 22 years before selling it to the Hoppers to retire. Since the early 1960s, there has been a salvage yard at Sonny’s current location that has operated under various ownerships. Sonny’s Auto Salvage has been an active member of ARA and the Arkansas Automotive Dismantlers and Recyclers Association (AADRA) for many years.
Hopper has held numerous leadership positions within the industry. He served as President of AADRA and is currently their Southwest Director. For ARA, Hopper previously served as an At-Large Director and is currently the chair of the National Motor Vehicle Titling Information System (NMVTIS) work group, operating under the ARA Governmental Affairs Committee. Hopper was recently appointed to the Department of Justice's NMVTIS Federal Advisory Board for a two-year term as a representative of the professional automotive recycling industry. Locally, Hopper was elected by voters of Lonoke County in May to serve as a Justice of the Peace on the quorum court, Lonoke County, Arkansas. He serves on many boards and other positions at the state and local level as well.
Sonny’s Auto Salvage specializes in providing Green Recycled Parts® for reuse in service and repair of vehicles in both their local market and nationwide. Sony's Auto Salvage along with other ARA members stand behind their product by offering various warranties to back their parts. “Top quality recycled OEM auto parts offer an excellent alternative to new, expensive and often hard-to-find replacement parts for your vehicle,” says Hopper. “Recycled vehicle parts save consumers money and help to protect the environment.”
Since 1943, the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) represents an industry dedicated to the efficient removal and reuse of “green” automotive parts, and the proper recycling of inoperable motor vehicles. ARA represents the interests of over 4,500 auto recycling facilities in the United States and fourteen other countries around the world. With programs such as the Certified Automotive Recycler Program (CAR), Green Recycled Parts, and other partnerships, ARA members continue to provide consumers with quality, low-cost alternatives for vehicle replacement parts, while preserving our environment for a “greener” tomorrow.
