R.D. Hopper Becomes Secretary of the Automotive Recyclers Association
MANASSAS, VA – Professional Automotive Recycler R.D. Hopper
, Sonny’s Auto Salvage, Jacksonville, Arkansas, was welcomed as Secretary of the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) at the 70th Annual ARA Convention & Exposition in Phoenix, Arizona, November 7-10, 2013. As the newest member to the Executive Committee of the Association, his participation will help direct the actions of the ARA, the voice of the professional automotive recycling industry. Hopper’s commitment to the ARA will ultimately lead to his service as President of the Association in 2016-17.
“I’ve benefitted from other ARA members who have given of their time to serve on the Executive Committee – now it’s my turn to do my part,” said R.D. Hopper. “I plan to bring my energy, industry experience, and enthusiasm to the table and do what I can to make sure our industry continues to thrive in the future.”
Hopper purchased Sonny’s Auto Salvage, www.sasparts.com
, in 1998. Located in Jacksonville, Arkansas, Sonny’s is a salvage yard with history. It has been serving the Central Arkansas area for over 37 years as a family owned and operated organization. In 1976, Sonny Taylor purchased the business and renamed it Sonny’s Auto Salvage. The Taylor family operated the business for 22 years before selling it to the Hoppers to retire. Since the early 1960s, there has been a salvage yard at Sonny’s current location that has operated under various ownerships.
Hopper has years of industry experience that he brings to his new role as ARA’s Executive Committee Secretary. Sonny’s has been an active member of ARA and the Arkansas Automotive Dismantlers and Recyclers Association (AADRA) for many years. Hopper has served as President of AADRA and is currently their Southwest Director. For ARA, Hopper recently stepped down as an At-Large Director in order to fulfill his commitment as Secretary, and he also is the chair of the National Motor Vehicle Titling Information System (NMVTIS) work group, operating under the ARA Governmental Affairs Committee. In this capacity he regularly works with both the state and federal legislative houses and the Department of Justice regarding the NMVTIS program.
Sonny’s Auto Salvage specializes in providing Green Recycled Parts® for reuse in service and repair of vehicles in both their local market and nationwide. Sony's Auto Salvage along with other ARA members stand behind their product by offering various warranties to back their parts. “Top quality recycled OEM auto parts offer an excellent alternative to new, expensive and often hard-to-find replacement parts for your vehicle,” says Hopper. “Recycled vehicle parts save consumer's money and help to protect the environment.”
Since 1943, the Automotive Recyclers Association (ARA) represents an industry dedicated to the efficient removal and reuse of “green” automotive parts, and the proper recycling of inoperable motor vehicles. ARA represents the interests of over 4,500 auto recycling facilities in the United States and fourteen other countries around the world. With programs such as the Certified Automotive Recycler Program (CAR), Green Recycled Parts, and other partnerships, ARA members continue to provide consumers with quality, low-cost alternatives for vehicle replacement parts, while preserving our environment for a “greener” tomorrow.
